Present Tense with it four sub-types examples and structures

 

The Present Tense in English has four sub-types:

1.      Present Simple (Habitual actions, general truths, facts)

2.      Present Continuous (Ongoing actions happening now)

3.      Present Perfect (Actions that happened at an unspecified time before now)

4.      Present Perfect Continuous (Actions that started in the past and are still continuing)


1. Present Simple [Subject + V1/V5 (s/es, ie0s  + Object]

Examples:

1.      I wake up at 6 AM every day.

2.      She likes chocolate.

3.      They play football on Sundays.

4.      The sun rises in the east.

5.      He works in a bank.

6.      Water boils at 100°C.

7.      We study English every evening.

8.      My mother cooks delicious food.

9.      Birds sing in the morning.

10. She does not watch TV at night.


2. Present Continuous (Subject + am/is/are + Verb +ing + Object)

Examples:

1.      I am studying for my exam right now.

2.      She is cooking dinner in the kitchen.

3.      They are playing football at the moment.

4.      He is watching a movie now.

5.      We are planning a trip to Europe.

6.      The baby is crying loudly.

7.      She is wearing a beautiful dress today.

8.      It is raining outside.

9.      The teacher is explaining the lesson.

10. I am not feeling well today.


3. Present Perfect (Subject + has/have + V3 + Object)

Examples:

1.      I have finished my homework.

2.      She has visited France twice.

3.      They have lived in this city for 10 years.

4.      He has never eaten sushi.

5.      We have just completed the project.

6.      My friend has already watched that movie.

7.      The train has arrived at the station.

8.      I have read this book before.

9.      She has not met him yet.

10. They have worked in this company since 2015.


4. Present Perfect Continuous (Subject + has/have + been + Verb+ing + Object + since/for + time duration)

Examples:

1.      I have been studying English for two years.

2.      She has been working here since 2018.

3.      They have been playing football for an hour.

4.      He has been waiting for you since morning.

5.      We have been living in this city for 10 years.

6.      She has been cooking dinner for 30 minutes.

7.      The baby has been crying since 5 PM.

8.      I have been reading this book all day.

9.      He has been traveling around the world for three months.

10. They have been talking on the phone for an hour.
