What is PTE Re-order Paragraphs?

Re-order Paragraphs is a task in the PTE Reading section where you see 4–5 text boxes in random order on the left side of the screen. You must drag them to the right side in the correct logical sequence to form a coherent paragraph.

Part 2: Scoring Rules (Very Important)

The scoring system for Re-order Paragraphs is unique. You do NOT get points for the entire sequence being correct. Instead, you get 1 point for each correctly ordered adjacent pair.

Suppose the correct order of 5 sentences is:

A → B → C → D → E

The adjacent pairs are:

• A-B (1 point)
• B-C (1 point)
• C-D (1 point)

Rule 1: Pronouns (He, She, It, They, This, These)

Pronouns refer to something mentioned earlier. The sentence with the pronoun cannot come first.

Rule 2: Definite Article (The)

"The" refers to something already introduced.

"The" usually comes after a/an or after a general noun.

5	Look for time order or logical sequence (cause → effect, general → specific, problem → solution).
6	Place the conclusion sentence last (contains words like "therefore," "in conclusion," or summarizes).
7	Double-check the entire sequence by reading it aloud in your head. Does it flow naturally?
