Types of Nouns (TEAS 7 English & Language Usage)
1. Common Noun
A general name
of a person, place, thing, or idea.
- Not specific
- Not
capitalized (unless at sentence start)
Examples:
- doctor,
city, book, school, river

2. Proper Noun
A specific
name of a person, place, or thing.
- Always
capitalized
Examples:
- John,
Kathmandu, Everest, Facebook, Nepal
✔ Sentence:
- Kathmandu is the
capital of Nepal.
3. Abstract Noun
A noun that names
an idea, feeling, quality, or emotion (not physical).
Examples:
- happiness,
honesty, fear, bravery, wisdom
✔ Sentence:
- Honesty is the best
policy.
4. Concrete Noun
A noun that can
be seen, touched, heard, smelled, or tasted.
Examples:
- apple,
table, music, water, flower
✔ Sentence:
- She placed
the apple on the table.
5. Collective Noun
A noun that
refers to a group of people, animals, or things.
Examples:
- team, flock,
family, army, committee
✔ Sentence:
- The team
is practicing for the match.

Nouns that can be
counted individually.
- Singular and
plural forms exist
Examples:
- pen/pens,
chair/chairs, student/students
