Difference between shall and should
Shall
Use: To express future intention,
offers, or suggestions (mostly in formal or British English).
Structure: Subject + shall + base verb
Examples:
- I shall return tomorrow. (future
intention)
- Shall we
go now? (suggestion)
- You shall receive your award
soon. (formal promise)
Should
Use: To express advice, obligation,
expectation, or possibility (more common and informal).
Structure: Subject + should + base verb
Examples:
- You should study daily. (advice)
- He should be home by now. (expectation)
- We should respect our elders. (moral
obligation)
Difference in Simple Terms:
- "Shall" =
will (formal) / suggestion
- "Should" =
advice / what is right or best
