PTE Reading: Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers (MCMA)

PTE Reading: Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers (MCMA)

In this task, you are given a passage and a list of options. You must select all the correct answers based on the passage. Sometimes more than one answer is correct.

Rules & Strategies

  1. Read the Question Carefully
    • Identify what you are asked to find: main idea, detail, inference, cause-effect, etc.
  2. Skim the Passage First
    • Get the general idea first.
    • Pay attention to keywords in the question.
  3. Scan for Keywords
    • Look for names, numbers, dates, technical terms, or phrases from the options in the passage.
    • Synonyms are often used, not exact words.
  4. Check Each Option Against the Passage
    • Do not assume. Only choose options supported by the text.
    • If an option is not mentioned or contradicted in the passage, it is incorrect.
  5. Watch for Qualifiers
    • Words like all, some, always, often, rarely are important.
    • An option might seem correct, but qualifiers may make it wrong.
  6. Select Multiple Correct Answers
    • There can be two, three, or all options correct.
    • Carefully compare each option with evidence in the passage.
