Tips for Reading Numbers in PTE Read Aloud
1. Break Numbers
into Groups
- Numbers
are easier to read if you break them into thousands,
hundreds, tens.
- Example:
- 2000
→ two thousand
- 20,000 → twenty
thousand
- 200,000 → two
hundred thousand
2. Use the
Correct Units
- Thousands: 1,000 = one thousand
- Ten-thousands: 10,000 = ten thousand
- Hundred-thousands: 100,000 = one hundred thousand
- Millions: 1,000,000 = one million
3. Avoid Saying
“Zero” Repeatedly
- Don’t say 2000 as “two zero zero zero” – it’s incorrect.
