PTE Collocation Types and Uses

A collocation is a pair or group of words that are commonly used together. Using collocations correctly makes English sound natural.

Collocations are divided into several types:


1. Noun + Noun Collocations

Two nouns appear together. The first noun usually describes or modifies the second.

Examples:

2. Noun + Verb Collocations

A noun acts as the subject or object, and it naturally pairs with a specific verb.

Examples:

Verbs naturally combine with adverbs to indicate manner, degree, or frequency.
