💡 Quick Cultural Tips for Making Requests in Nepali

1. Use "Kripaya" (कृपया) for politeness

It means "Please" and is especially useful in formal requests.

Example:
Kripaya malai ek minute dinuhos.
Please give me a minute.

2. Add "Hajur" (हजुर) for deep respect

When requesting something from a senior, elder, teacher, or respected person, Hajur makes the request more respectful.

Example:
Hajur, kripaya malai ek minute dinuhos.
Sir/Madam, please give me a minute.

3. Use question forms for indirect requests

Nepali speakers often make requests as questions to sound softer and less demanding.

Instead of:

Malai paani deu.
Give me water.

Use:

Ke ma ali paani pauna sakchhu?
Could I get some water?

4. Respectful Pronouns

Nepali

Meaning

Use

Timi (तिमी)

You

Friends, younger people

Tapai (तपाईं)

You

Seniors, elders, strangers

Hajur (हजुर)

Very respectful

Elders, teachers, respected people

5. Ending with "Hunchha?"

Hunchha? is commonly used to make a request softer. It can convey the idea of "Is that okay?"

Example:
Ma bihana aaun hunchha?
Can I come in the morning? / Would it be okay if I came in the morning?
