Key Cultural Note on Nepali Pronouns

Unlike English, Nepali has three levels of formality for "You":

  • तँ (Ta) – Used with very close friends, children, or deities (very informal).
  • तिमी (Timi) – Used with equals, friends, or younger people (neutral).
  • तपाईं (Tapai) – Used with elders, strangers, or in formal settings (respectful).
