General Questions

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Sijal Bhattarai. I am originally from Nepal and have a strong passion for working in healthcare. I have completed my training in care assistance and have gained hands-on experience supporting patients with daily living activities. I am dedicated, hardworking, and enjoy helping others, which is why I am excited to apply for this position.

2. Why do you want to work as a nursing assistant?
I genuinely enjoy caring for people and making a difference in their lives. Being a nursing assistant allows me to support patients physically and emotionally, and I find fulfillment in knowing that I am contributing to their comfort and well-being.

3. What do you know about our healthcare facility?
I have researched your facility and I am impressed with your commitment to delivering high-quality care and promoting patient dignity and respect. I also appreciate your focus on continuous staff development and patient-centered care.

4. What do you think are the most important qualities for a healthcare assistant?
I believe empathy, patience, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are key qualities. Being reliable and having a caring nature are also very important.


Skills & Experience

5. What experience do you have in caring for patients?
I have experience assisting patients with personal care, helping them with mobility, feeding, and maintaining hygiene. I have also provided emotional support and companionship, and I am familiar with maintaining care plans and reporting changes in patient conditions.

6. How do you handle stressful situations?
I stay calm, focus on the immediate need, and prioritize tasks. I also remind myself that staying composed is important for both the patient and the team. Deep breathing and clear communication help me manage stress effectively.

7. Have you ever worked with elderly or vulnerable patients before?
Yes, I have worked with elderly patients who required support with mobility, hygiene, and companionship. I understand that they need patience, kindness, and respect in every interaction.

8. Can you describe a time when you had to deal with a challenging patient or situation?
Once, I cared for a patient who was very anxious and refused help. I patiently listened to their concerns, reassured them, and gave them time. Eventually, by building trust and communicating calmly, I was able to assist them with their needs.


Scenario-Based Questions

9. What would you do if a patient refused to take their medication?
I would not force them. Instead, I would explain the importance of the medication calmly and respectfully. If they still refused, I would report it to the nurse in charge and document the incident.

10. How would you respond if you saw a colleague not following proper care procedures?
Patient safety is the priority. I would remind the colleague gently and, if necessary, report it to my supervisor to ensure proper procedures are followed.

11. What steps would you take if a patient fell in the ward?
First, I would check if the patient is conscious and responsive, keep them calm, and avoid moving them unnecessarily. I would immediately call for medical help and report the incident to my supervisor.

12. If a patient becomes aggressive or upset, how would you calm them down?
I would speak in a calm and reassuring voice, listen to their concerns, give them space if needed, and try to redirect their focus to something positive. If required, I would seek support from senior staff.


Communication and Teamwork

13. How would you communicate with a patient who has difficulty understanding or hearing?
I would speak slowly and clearly, use simple words, maintain eye contact, and use gestures or visual aids where appropriate. I would also be patient and repeat information if needed.

14. Can you describe a time when you worked successfully as part of a team?
In my previous role, we worked as a team during a busy shift where we had to manage multiple patients with complex needs. We communicated regularly, divided tasks, and supported each other to ensure every patient received proper care.

15. How do you handle disagreements with colleagues?
I believe in open and respectful communication. I would listen to their perspective, express my views calmly, and work together to find a solution without letting it affects patient care.


Safety and Confidentiality

16. How do you maintain patient confidentiality?
I always ensure that patient information is shared only with authorized staff and never discussed in public areas. I also handle all documentation securely according to policy.

17. Why is infection control important and how do you ensure it?
Infection control is vital to protect patients, staff, and visitors from illness. I ensure this by following proper hand hygiene, wearing PPE when required, and following all cleaning and waste disposal protocols.

18. What would you do if you suspected a patient was being mistreated or neglected?
I would report it immediately to my supervisor or safeguarding lead, following the correct procedures. Patient safety and well-being always come first.


Motivation and Future Goals

19. What do you find most rewarding about working in care?
I find it rewarding to know that I can make a positive impact on someone’s life, especially when patients feel comforted and supported because of my care.

20. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope to continue developing my skills and possibly train to become a registered nurse in the future. I aim to keep learning and growing within the healthcare field. After having precious experiences in the UK , I will return back to my home country so that I can open a clinic or a hospital. I will provide my skills and learnings with my staffs and freshers in order to make them well experiences with the international skills and techniques.
