1 NOUN (संज्ञा)
Definition
A noun is
a word that names a person, place, thing, animal, or idea.
Types of Noun
a) Proper Noun (व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा)
Specific name of
a person or place.
Examples: Ram, Sita, Nepal, Kathmandu
Sentence:
- Ram lives in
Nepal.
राम नेपालमा बस्छ।
b) Common Noun (जातिवाचक संज्ञा)
General name of a
class.
Examples: boy, girl, country, city
Sentence:
- A boy is
playing.
एउटा केटा खेलिरहेको छ।
c) Collective Noun (समूहवाचक संज्ञा)
Name of a group.
Examples: team, crowd, flock
Sentence:
- A team won
the match.
टोलीले खेल जित्यो।
d) Abstract Noun (भाववाचक संज्ञा)
Name of a
quality, state, or idea.
Examples: honesty, beauty, freedom
Sentence:
- Honesty is
the best policy.
इमानदारी सबैभन्दा राम्रो नीति हो।
e) Material Noun (द्रव्यवाचक संज्ञा)
Name of a
substance.
Examples: gold, water, rice
Sentence:
- Gold is
expensive.
सुन महँगो हुन्छ।
2 PRONOUN (सर्वनाम)
Definition
A pronoun
is a word used instead of a noun.
Types of Pronoun
a) Personal Pronoun
Examples: I, we, you, he, she, it, they
Sentence:
- She is my
sister.
उनी मेरी बहिनी हुन्।
b) Possessive Pronoun
Examples: mine, yours, his, hers
Sentence:
- This book is
mine.
यो किताब मेरो हो।
c) Reflexive Pronoun
Examples: myself, himself, themselves
Sentence:
- He hurt
himself.
उसले आफैलाई चोट लगायो।
d) Demonstrative Pronoun
Examples: this, that, these, those
Sentence:
- This is my
pen.
यो मेरो कलम हो।
e) Relative Pronoun
Examples: who, which, that
Sentence:
- The boy who
is crying is my brother.
जो केटा रोइरहेको छ ऊ मेरो भाइ हो।
3 VERB (क्रिया)
Definition
A verb
shows action or state of being.
Types of Verb
a) Main Verb
Examples: eat, go, write
Sentence:
- She writes a
letter.
उनी चिठी लेख्छिन्।
b) Auxiliary Verb
Examples: is, am, are, has, have, will
Sentence:
- He is
working.
ऊ काम गरिरहेको छ।
c) Transitive Verb
Takes an object.
Sentence:
- She reads a
book.
उनी किताब पढ्छिन्।
d) Intransitive Verb
No object.
Sentence:
- The baby
cried.
बच्चा रोयो।
4 ADJECTIVE (विशेषण)
Definition
An adjective
describes a noun or pronoun.
Types of Adjective
a) Descriptive Adjective
Examples: good, bad, tall
Sentence:
- He is a good
student.
ऊ राम्रो विद्यार्थी हो।
b) Quantitative Adjective
Examples: some, much, little
Sentence:
- I have
little time.
मसँग थोरै समय छ।
c) Demonstrative Adjective
Examples: this, that
Sentence:
- This book is
new.
यो किताब नयाँ छ।
d) Possessive Adjective
Examples: my, your, his
Sentence:
- My house is
big.
मेरो घर ठूलो छ।
5 ADVERB (क्रियाविशेषण)
Definition
An adverb
modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb.
Types of Adverb
a) Adverb of Manner
Examples: slowly, carefully
Sentence:
- He walks
slowly.
ऊ बिस्तारै हिँड्छ।
b) Adverb of Time
Examples: now, yesterday
Sentence:
- I met her
yesterday.
मैले उनलाई हिजो भेटें।
c) Adverb of Place
Examples: here, there
Sentence:
- She is
waiting outside.
उनी बाहिर पर्खिरहेकी छिन्।
d) Adverb of Degree
Examples: very, too
Sentence:
- It is very
hot.
धेरै गर्मी छ।
6 PREPOSITION (पूर्वसर्ग)
Definition
A preposition
shows the relationship between a noun/pronoun and another word.
Examples: in, on, at, by, with, under
Sentence:
- The cat is
under the table.
बिरालो टेबल मुनि छ।
7 CONJUNCTION (समुच्चयबोधक)
Definition
A conjunction
joins words, phrases, or clauses.
Types
a) Coordinating Conjunction
Examples: and, but, or
Sentence:
- I tried hard
but failed.
मैले धेरै प्रयास गरेँ तर असफल भएँ।
b) Subordinating Conjunction
Examples: because, although, if
Sentence:
- I stayed
home because it rained.
पानी परेकाले म घरमै बसेँ।
8 INTERJECTION (विस्मयादिबोधक)
Definition
An interjection
expresses sudden emotion.
Examples: Oh!, Wow!, Alas!, Hurrah!
Sentence:
- Wow! You did
it.
वाह! तिमीले गर्यौ।
9 DETERMINER / ARTICLE (निर्धारक / लेख)
Definition
A word placed before
a noun to limit or define it.
Examples: a, an, the, this, that, my
Sentence:
- The sun
rises in the east.
सूर्य पूर्वबाट उदाउँछ।
