Expert Tips for Using These Words in IELTS:

1.      For Speaking: Do not try to cram 50 words into a 2-minute cue card. Pick 5-7 of these words, practice them until they feel natural, and use them to emphasize a point (e.g., "What is crucial to understand is that...").

2.      For Writing Task 2: When you state your opinion, use "Advocate" or "Contend." Avoid saying "I think" repeatedly. Say: "I firmly advocate for stricter laws..."

3.      For Listening: Pay attention to synonyms. The speakers on the recording rarely use the exact word from the question. If the question says "cost," the speaker might say "expenditure" or "expenses."

4.      For Reading: Do not panic if you see these words. They are often used to identify the Author’s Attitude (e.g., if the author uses "detrimental," they have a negative attitude).

Example Paragraph using these words (Band 8.0 Level)

"While urban development is crucial (essential) for economic growth, it often has a detrimental (harmful) effect on the environment. The government must advocate (support) for green technologies. Consequently (Therefore), we must acknowledge (admit) that individual actions, while small, are beneficial (helpful) in the long run."
